Scottish restaurant triumphs at national awards
Wedgwood the Restaurant is ending 2016 just as it began, with another fantastic award win. In September it was voted Restaurant of the Year, in the outside London category, at the fifth annual Food and Travel Reader Awards.
Wedgwood the Restaurant, which was the only Scottish restaurant in the category, beat a host of Michelin starred establishments to take the title. The husband and wife team, Paul and Lisa Wedgwood fended off household names such as Nigel Haworth, Glynn Purnell, Shaun Rankin and Sat Bains and a total of 10 Michelin stars to win the crown.
The awards, organised by Food and Travel magazine are voted on by readers and honour the best of the best in the world of food, drink and travel.
Chef patron Paul Wedgwood, who was at the ceremony to collect the award with Lisa, commented on the achievement:
“We are over the moon to win this award. To be the only Scottish contender in a category which included some of the best restaurants in the UK was an honour in itself, but to win it is truly the icing on the cake. We are utterly delighted and want to thank not only everyone that voted for us, but the people who make Wedgwood what it is, from our team of talented chefs and front of house staff who work so incredibly hard seven days a week to all of our suppliers who make sure we are able to serve the very best Scottish produce. A massive thank to you all!”
It has been a strong year for the restaurant which was also named one of the Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants in the UK as well as picking up the Scottish Licensed Trade News’ Wine Award. The restaurant underwent a stunning refurbishment earlier in the year and continues to be one of Edinburgh’s favourite restaurants.
